The Sankofa symbol is one of many sacred Adinkra Symbols ascribed to the Akan people who settled in the area of West Africa that is now called Ghana and Ivory Coast. The wood is named after a skilled master drummer, Tweneboa Kodua, who during his lifetime was the chosen drum maker of many local chiefs. The drum face is made of hand-shaved dried goat skin.
