To offer some insight into the fascinating behind-the-scenes work in making our products, we profile Forson’s craft shop, one of Ghana’s premier producers of handmade Furniture, Home Accessories and Decorative products. The products include Stools, Tables, Mirrors, Children’s furniture, Boxes, Vases, as well as Masks and Figurines.
Forson’s large production facility comprise over 100 staff and contract artisans with expertise ranging from designers, artists, carvers, sanders, and finishers. The facility has received government commendations for providing a safe working environment, fair wages, and the necessary training and technical assistance to foster a high level of artisan creativity and productivity. The shop has always placed high emphasis on quality control – a dedicated staff to ensure that each piece meets African Heritage Collections’ standards for moisture content, carving, and other benchmarks. The craft shop also collaborates with one of the local Universities to provide employment opportunities for graduating students.
The craft shop obtains its raw materials from fallen logs, government-approved lumber, and recycled metals. The off-cuts from the carving process are donated to a local orphanage and food vendors in the community as firewood.
In 2008, Forson’s craft shop won the “Africa SMME Trade Sector Award for Africa” from the Africa Growth Institute of South Africa.
The quality and depth of its talent pool has enabled Forson’s craft shop and African Heritage Collection to forge an unprecedented partnership to bring unique products to the international market.
